The South Decoded: Yes Ma’am never killed anybody.

The first thing that must be understood about the South is the importance of manners. For a well reared southerner, manners are not optional. Manners are something that never take a vacation.

The South has become world famous for its hospitality. That is because we pay attention to what our mamas taught us. We are trained to treat people like people.

There is an individualized manner protocol for men and women. For example, a southern gentlemen always stands when a lady enters a room, and walks on the street side of the sidewalk.

Here are three easy ways to incorporate southern etiquette into your daily life:

1. Be pleasant and charming: Always be gracious to everyone. People should always be treated like people even though you despise every breath they take, and you have fantasies about their fatal demise. By being pleasant and charming in all situations, you can experience joy the of killing someone with kindness.

2. Yes ma’am never killed anybody! Always say “Yes ma’am” or “No ma’am” or “Yes sir” or “No sir”. I do it to everyone young and old. It’s respectful. Be sure to say “Excuse me” and “Pardon me” too.

3. Be nice! It’s always better to be too nice than not enough. That means speaking to everyone even if you don’t know them. Always be welcoming and approachable. That also means being nice even when your angry. If your nice and pleasant while angry chances are you won’t do or say anything you might regret, and you’ll keep your dignity.

The bottom line is that good manners and proper etiquette will set you apart. So many people either lack or have forgotten their upbringing. A good well bread southerner always remembers where they came from!

The South: Decoded

The American south has piqued peoples’ interest for generations now.

I’m going to try to do my best to decode the south. Many people have tried. I know from the get-go I’m being over ambitious.

Being from the south is more than coming from a particular region, but it entails a code of ethics, a host of traditions, and a distinctive lifestyle.

With all of that being said, over the next few blogs I’m going to fancy my musings, and bring to you some of the greatest things the south has to offer. It will be somewhat of a “how-to” guide on how to incorporate the southern lifestyle into your daily living while trying to make sense of the things southerners do.
